Are you looking to enhance your chances of admission to UK universities with another
recognised qualification?
Research has shown that students completing an EPQ perform better at University, with increasing numbers of universities making alternative grade offers for applicants with an EPQ. Our students also value the option of a ‘dual offer’ from some universities (for example: AAA or AAB plus an A in EPQ).
“An EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) is, to put it simply, a BIG independent project for which you’ll earn a qualification. It involves writing an essay of about 5000 words about your research and how you approached your project and a final presentation where you’ll talk through this essay and paperwork. Alternatively you can make an ‘artifact’ or Research and prepare a performance. This can be a piece of artwork, or something else you’ve physically made – and an accompanying shorter essay.” UCAS
Under the guidance of a teaching supervisor, students identify, design, and deliver an individual project. Students can choose to complete a structured piece of formal writing of 5,000 words (a dissertation) or create an ‘artifact’ focused project or a performance which is combined with a 1,000 word report. The opportunities for an ‘artifact’-based project are extensive, with students choosing to create a website, making architectural models, digital media, directing a film, producing a film, writing a screenplay, design sets and costumes, composing a piece of music, or design a scientific experiment.
Students design their projects conceptually and do not need to create physical resources, but if a student wants to work in 3D, they can source materials and make these as part of their independent research and development. As part of the project, students are required to complete a reflective journal, which documents their project all the way through to the final stages of presenting it to their peers. This final presentation includes a reflective evaluation of the project, which also enables students to understand the valuable skills they have gained whilst working on their EPQ.
At UniFutures, our mission is to empower students to thrive academically, emotionally and personally throughout their university journey.
